Under Painting Study

Under Painting Study The bold lines were created by transferring the drawing onto the board by putting the drawing on top of tracing paper. The lines were enforced with ink. When the ink dried, the drawing was covered with raw amber and wiped out with a cloth for lights and highlights. The darks were reinforced with another coat of raw amber. This makes an under painting that would have been continued with a full palette.

Drawing at Grimaldy's workshop

These are two quick value studies done in pencil.

Color system

This is an one hour demo painting. This color system is based on my understanding of the Fletcher booklet color system. The main point of the triangle points to blue violet. The only complement colors on the color wheel are blue and orange. The others are split complimentary colors. The blue and the orange, to my understanding, will never be grayed with each other . They will be most vibrant if they are placed next to each other in the painting, and they will be the main theme of the painting. The other colors, which are 7 points on the color wheel, will never cross the center of the color wheel in order to gray them. For the other 5 points on the wheel that are missing, we can create them by mixing neighboring colors. That means that the missing points are not allowed to be squeezed from the tube. In doing so, the painting has a better color unity. In the center of the wheel, we'll have a mixture of the three points of the central triangle. In this case, blue violet, red orange

The process of figure painting

Drawing First I drew the figure as accurate as possible. At this stage the figure is still flat; only the shapes of the shadows are indicated. The form is not turned-this is just a map for the process that will fallow. The drawing transfer The drawing is placed on transferring paper which is put on top of the painting surface . That can be a board or canvas of your choice. Instead of using transferring paper, a different method can be used. Oil paint can be thinly applied on the back of the drawing and than placed on top of the canvas. The next step will be to take a sharp ball pen or any other sharp enough tool .Trace the drawing/go over it . When I removed the transfer, this is what's left on the canvas. Under Painting The under painting stage is another tool to help me think the painting over. At this stage the drawing challenge has been resolved for the time. Now is time to concentrate on value and over all aesthetics. These quests is easier to solve with one hue . My choice

color study for red tomatoes and green kale leaves.

The fascination with color takes me into experimenting numerous color combinations and pallets with hope that one day I will find the one that I like the best. I like very much Carlos Madrid's color combinations. In this painting, I tried to use his pallet. There is no green pigment in this combination.
